“PLEEEEEEEASE let me change my name, Mama!!!"

Oh! To have to hear my buddies joke, “Way to go, Grace!” when this “tomboy” was anything but graceful!

I decided that when I went to college no one would HAVE to know that my name was Grace. I could just be Paula G. Smith. What a brilliant idea! The first week of school one of the guys asked me to go to a formal (long dress and heels) welcome dinner. I was running late and my date was waiting at the bottom of the stairs tapping his foot impatiently. I ran down the first flight of stairs and rounded the corner to run down the second flight. When I looked up to see that my date was standing there, I somehow missed the last five steps and SLIDE in on my knees at his feet!!! After seeing that I was all right, he roared laughing and said, “Way to go, Grace!”

I was so shocked that (still on my knees) looking up at him, I blurted out, “How did you know my name was GRACE?!

But instead of a name change, I got a heart change!
